Bobby Orr stirs up memories


No. 4 retired 30 years

Thirty years have flown by since Bobby Orr, after so many surgeries on his left knee he can’t remember how many, was forced to retire.

“It really does seem like just yesterday,” said the greatest defenseman the game has ever known. “It’s scary how quickly it’s gone by.”

On Nov. 8, 1978, after a year of working gallantly to do the impossible - trying to keep skating with little knee joint and leg bones rubbing one against the other - Orr finally limped away from the game at the age of 30. (Boston Herald - Full Story)
