Fluffernutter nominated for official sandwich of Mass.

A Massachusetts legislative committee is considering what the state sandwich, candy and candy bar should be.

The Boston Globe reported that the foods under consideration are the Fluffernutter for the sandwich, Necco wafers for candy and Charleston Chew for candy bar.

Marshmallow Fluff was invented in Somerville and is now made in Lynn. Necco Wafers used to be made in Cambridge and now come from Revere. And the man who made the Charlestown Chew famous, Nat Sloane, was a native of Belmont.

Massachusetts already has five official state foods: the baked navy bean, corn muffin, chocolate chip cookie, Boston cream pie, and Boston cream doughnut.
