Thief taketh away from Eastie church

A heartless, Hell-bound thief kicked off the holiday season by snatching some $50,000 worth of silver and gold religious articles from Sacred Heart Church in East Boston on Tuesday night, cops said.

Swiped from the church altar was the gold- and silver-plated monstrance, a 2-foot stand in which the Eucharist is displayed, as well as the tabernacle’s gold-plated cover.

The church’s pastor, the Rev. Wayne Belschner, arrived yesterday at 7 a.m. to discover the missing items, along with an unholy mess of broken glass on the floor of the lower hall. In the grass outside, cops later found a brick used to shatter the window.
