March?
Can you believe it's March already? Hopefully spring arrives soon because I can't take anymore of this cold weather and snow. Next weekend we turn the clocks ahead which is always a sign of spring, and the boys of summer played an exhibition game on TV today. Red Sox 2, Twins 1. (Yankees lost to the Reds!)

Wow, have I been neglecting this site...
Seems since I joined Facebook, haven't kept up with this site on a daily basis. It's also because FB has cut down on emails so haven't received anything to really post. I'll fix that.

Seems everyone's on Facebook lately and how time flies when you're on there doing nothing! It is pretty nice to hear from everyone and see family photo's, etc.
So if you're on Facebook, drop me a line.

The Twelfth Day of Christmas
I never understood this until I went searching for it online and found this on Wikipedia. Now it makes a little sense. According to this, yesterday was the twelfth day of Christmas and today is the Epiphany...or at least I think so.
The Twelve Days of Christmas, and the associated evenings of those twelve days (Twelve-tide), are the festive days beginning on Christmas Day (December 25) through to the evening of the Twelfth Day of Christmas, (January 6). Thus, the first night of Christmas is December 25–26 and Twelfth Night is January 5-6. This period is also known as Christmastide. The day after Twelfth Night is Epiphany.
Wikipedia.org Article
The 26th is mentioned because of the celebration of Boxing Day. Also, according to the articles I read, it is supposed to be unlucky to keep up Christmas decorations beyond the Epiphany...I'm sure I'll see soon enough. Mine aren't coming down until this weekend.

This is funny!
Or maybe it's one of those "you had to be there" type things.
Was scanning the Globe and came across this event for this evening:
Sex & Drugs Trivia

An adult trivia game. Beer specials, outrageous prizes, and hilarious hands-on rounds. Starts at 8 p.m. every Sunday night.

This reminds me of when Martha, Daryle, JW and I used to go to a bar @ Orient Heights after work...for the life of me I can't think of the name of it...and instead of video games, they had a sex trivia game. Sadly, we all had our areas of expertise and it would be pretty funny. Or at least we thought so. It was the bar that we used to take money out of the wishing well to pay for the toll because we'd always come out of there broke. I think the place burned down and they never rebuilt. Was there "Blazing" in the name? This is going to drive me nuts!

Finally broke down and joined Facebook...
due to a little persuasion by Pam. I was so happy to see her pictures of her family and especially Denise's new baby, Gino. Haven't got a clue what I'm doing, but since when has that stopped me.

Globe Article "20 Best Places to Kiss in Boston"

I was reading the Boston Globe and saw an article titled "20 Best Places to Kiss in Boston". Some were a little obvious, like welcoming someone home @ Logan airport. One was very romantic when I was in high school, which is probably the only time I've been to the Planetarium at the Museum of Science. Others were near, by or inside a hotel...what kind of a kiss were they suggesting there? The majority of them were inappropriate places, unless you were at a restaurant being proposed to or telling your spouse you got a promotion, were having a baby, etc. Where is the romance at the Franklin Park Zoo?
I would much rather be on a beach watching the sun rise or set, or under a full moon on a starry night. I guess I just don't see the romantic side of Boston any more, maybe my age is showing! I don't know, I thought anywhere you were with the one you loved and kissed was enough, who actually notices the where?

Christmas Past
Came across this Christmas picture of Lynda Lee when she was 2 1/2 years old. That's when I liked Christmas...just a little. When did this adorable little girl grow up?I think I'll look for more Christmas pictures of the kids when they were little...I liked them better then!
If you would like to send me some old Christmas pictures, please do, I'll put them up.

Well, it's December...

and if you haven't already, people start thinking of what they'd like for Christmas. Kids are pretty easy to shop for, while adults are more difficult. Even tho my sisters and brother agreed no presents this year...we all have our wish list.
St. John's Church in Winthrop has started their giving tree and I'll be shopping for a pair of boots for a 13 year old boy. It's too bad shopping for the family wasn't that simple.
I haven't really thought about what I'd like yet, but was wondering if anyone else had. If you have, let me know by leaving a comment. I'd be interested in hearing what's on everyone's wish list. I'm still wondering if I'm on Santa's good or bad list. We shall see.

Article on Boston.com: Many continue to rely on ER's

Many continue to rely on ERs - I read this article on Boston.com and wanted to scream. Has anyone been sick lately...ear ache, sinus infection, etc? Call your primary care physician on a Thursday and they MAY be able to see you next Tuesday or Wednesday. I learned early on when my children were small not to bother to call. Just show up in the doctor's office and at some point they have to deal with you, adults are different. You're told if the symptoms persist, go to the ER. Most insurance plans charge you over 3 times the amount of a regular doctor's visit...so why on earth would anyone think that sitting in an ER for 6 to 7 hours versus a doctor's office for 1 hour is the choice of the patient?
Instead of watching where patients go when they're sick, insurance companies should start watching what doctor's office advise patients when they are sick and they'd get a clearer picture of what's going on. Doctor's aren't allowing time for sick patients. Isn't that an irony.

Learn something new everyday...

or maybe it's because I'm just getting old.
Am I the only person alive who doesn't know what a "handle" of alcohol is?
I look it up online and sure enough, there it is on Urban Dictionary.
handle
A 1.75 litre bottle of alcohol, which is approximately half a gallon. Usually bottles this size have a handle for easy carrying, hence the name.
Also, Orloff @ $13 a handle is the vodka of choice...ugggh!
So this is what we learn when we go away to college. I guess kegs were too bulky.
Had a nice trip to Maine
Seems the more I visit, the quicker I'm in and out of Maine. One of my favorite states, except in the winter...I hate snow. In and out of St. Joe's so quick didn't even notice if there was still leaves on the trees...maybe next time.
Liz, so close and yet so far away...how many more times before I get to see you and Bob. Soon, I promise. In the meantime, have a great holiday...say hi to Deb & Paul. I'll do the same on my end!
Love you guys. If the ride back to school doesn't work out, maybe I'll swing by...won't know until I'm told tho. Have I said I hate kids!

Monday morning rush...
Woke up late today. Always a good way to start the week. Went to a really nice wedding yesterday @ the Danversport Yacht Club. Haven't been there in quite a while. Was a nice time. The bride and groom, Alyssa & Billy, seemed soo young. Pretty couple. Hopefully I can find the cord to the camera I bought. Really have to straighten out the whole computer mess at home.
This week should be a long one for my friend, Deb. It's the last week of work for her. Lucky stiff! She doesn't think so but she will.
Diet hasn't been going so well...so, I've started again today. My daughter, Lisa, tells me that I shouldn't keep saying that I'm going on a diet when I go off it every week. I have good intentions when I start. I guess that's the best I can do for now. Aruba will be here in no time.
Got work to do so I'm off.

A Truly Heartbreaking Day
I would never normally write about something so tragic, but this has really got to me. Very early today, I learned that a friend passed away in a car accident last night. What is so tragic about this is she lost her life long before her time and for no reason that could ever be explained to me, under any circumstances. And she had 3 young children who meant so much to her that will forever grieve her loss.
My deepest sympanthies go out to her family and friends. I know they are heartbroken by her untimely passing, as I am. My heart goes out to all involved.
