Massive Lynn Harbor search for fallen man finds nothing

LYNN-The massive, multi-agency search of Lynn Harbor for a man who supposedly fell off the General Edwards Bridge that lasted several hours and briefly halted traffic on Friday turned up nothing, firefighters said.

“Nothing was found at all,” Revere Deputy Fire Chief Bob Eydenberg said.

A Lynn fire department captain also said Sunday that no one was found.

Numerous firefighters from the two fire departments, along with a State Police helicopter, two harbormasters and about 35 State Police Troopers searched the harbor, Pines River and Saugus River for over six hours after a passerby said he saw a man fall from the Route 1A bridge during heavy winds around 2:15 p.m.

Doug Hurlbert told the Item he was driving southbound when he saw the man fall.

“I feel bad for the guy,” he said. “I hope they find him.” Hurlbert didn’t have a cell phone so he drove to Kelly’s Roast Beef in Revere to call 911 about 10 minutes later.
