Freezepop’s cool sound ices a bright ‘Future’

The members of Freezepop didn’t go looking for a record deal, or lipstick, but they got both.

The synthpop outfit, which brings its sweet brand of pop to the Middle East in Cambridge on Friday, was plugging along on its own Archenemy label when Cordless Recordings came calling.

“We liked their business model about just throwing their resources behind bands that kind of already had their own thing going on and just needed a little extra push,” singer Liz Enthusiasm said.

Consisting of the Duke of Pannekoeken (video game composer Kasson Crooker), the Other Sean T. Drinkwater (self-identified clone of musician Sean T. Drinkwater) and Ms. Enthusiasm (graphic designer Jussi Gamache), Freezepop released its latest album, “Future Future Future Perfect,” through Cordless, which has since been annexed by Rykodisc, which plans to release “Form Activity Motion,” an iTunes-only EP of remixes, next month.

Then came the lipstick. The band was approached by two cosmetics makers - one who is creating handmade Freezepop-branded lip balm, and another collaborating with the singer to perfect the exact shade of “Enthusiasm-pink” lipstick.
