Rescued puppies headed for new homes
The 87 hapless dogs rescued from a squalid, illegal puppy mill last spring have now recovered and are ready to be adopted, the Animal Rescue League of Boston and Norfolk district attorney said yesterday.
“What started out in May of this year as something very disturbing, ended up today being something quite delightful,” said District Attorney William R. Keating. “Today was a day to celebrate what can occur in the worst of situations when people come forward and authorities intervene.”
The puppies and dogs, including a pug, a chow and many cocker spaniel mixes, were found in a rented Randolph house on May 28. They were matted and covered in feces, and many were malnourished. Some were pregnant, and new litters raised to 109 the number of dogs from the rescue, said league communications manager Jennifer Wooliscroft.
