Blonde Cookbook

Submitted by Jacko
It's fun to cook for Tom. Today I made angel food cake. The recipe said beat 12 eggs separately. The neighbors were nice enough to loan me some extra bowls.

Tom wanted fruit salad for supper. The recipe said serve without dressing. So I didn't dress. What a surprise when Tom brought a friend home for supper

A good day for rice. The recipe said wash thoroughly before steaming the rice. It seemed kind of silly, but I took a bath anyway. I can't say it improved the rice any.

Today Tom asked for salad again I tried a new recipe. It said prepare ingredients; lay on a bed of lettuce one hour before serving. Tom asked me why I was rolling around in the garden..

I found an easy recipe for cookies. It said put the ingredients in a bowl and beat it. There must have been something wrong with this recipe. When I got back, everything was the same as when I left.

Tom did the shopping today and brought home a chicken. He asked me to dress it for Sunday. I don't have any clothes that fit it, and for some reason Tom keeps counting to ten.

Tom's folks came to dinner. I wanted to serve roast but all I had was hamburger. Suddenly I had a flash of genius.. I put the hamburger in the oven and set the controls for roast. It still came out hamburger, much to my disappointment.

Well Good Night, Dear Diary. This has been a very exciting week! I am eager for tomorrow to come so I can try out a new recipe on Tom. If I can talk Tom into buying a bigger oven, I would like to surprise him with a chocolate moose.

A person briefed on Citigroup's plans says the banking giant is cutting another 53,000 jobs in the coming quarters. CEO Vikram Pandit is revealing the plan at the company's town hall meeting Monday with employees.

Revere’s full-day ‘K’ may face ax

REVERE - Parents of 500 kindergartners may see the time their kids spend in school reduced if the state cuts back school spending over the next year.

Eliminating full-day kindergarten is one of the cuts School Superintendent Paul Dakin last week said he may recommend to the School Committee as early as December.

Dakin has warned for months that the schools need $6 million to $7 million in additional state money to continue operating existing programs. Expectations of receiving the money have all but vanished with legislators and municipal officials’ warnings of state aid cuts next July, perhaps sooner.

Happy 50th Birthday, Keith!

Monday morning rush...

Woke up late today. Always a good way to start the week. Went to a really nice wedding yesterday @ the Danversport Yacht Club. Haven't been there in quite a while. Was a nice time. The bride and groom, Alyssa & Billy, seemed soo young. Pretty couple. Hopefully I can find the cord to the camera I bought. Really have to straighten out the whole computer mess at home.

This week should be a long one for my friend, Deb. It's the last week of work for her. Lucky stiff! She doesn't think so but she will.

Diet hasn't been going so well...so, I've started again today. My daughter, Lisa, tells me that I shouldn't keep saying that I'm going on a diet when I go off it every week. I have good intentions when I start. I guess that's the best I can do for now. Aruba will be here in no time.

Got work to do so I'm off.

Anti-greyhound racing group considers NH ban

SEABROOK — Now that greyhound racing has been banned in Massachusetts, Grey 2K USA is considering its next step — in New Hampshire.

"We're obviously pretty excited with what voters decided in Massachusetts," said Paul LaFlamme, who serves on the board of directors of Grey 2K USA. "By the same token, what's right in Massachusetts isn't necessarily right in New Hampshire."

Grey 2K USA of Somerville, Mass., initiated the ballot question to ban greyhound racing in Massachusetts by 2010. Massachusetts passed the law by voter referendum. In New Hampshire, legislators would have to get onboard with a bill.

T-Bone's Restaurant

Just got back from this restaurant in Salem, NH. If you're in the area, try it. The last time we went there was no wait. However, today there was a 25 minute wait. It was worth it.

We ordered the onion soup, basil/mozzarella/tomato, salad, T-bone steak, baked potato with sour cream and a shepard's pie with green beans. Everything was excellent and cooked to perfection.

Drink of the Weekend Update

Didn't like the peach schnapps. Just wasn't the same flavor of the Hooters drink.

Settled on Vodka, Malibu Rum, Pineapple Orange Juice, with a splash of cranberry juice. I liked the peachless version much better. I'll have to find another drink for the peach schnapps. Guess it can always go in Sangria Mix. That will be next summer's project.

While at the liquor store, they had samples of Malibu Banana Rum. Of course, I had to buy that too...and now figure out what I'll make with that. Maybe that will be on the list for next weekend. Not sure yet.

MBTA request federal funds is rejected

The Federal Transit Authority has denied a request from the MBTA for matching funds to buy two new commuter line locomotives from a European company, ruling yesterday that they must be made in the United States.

Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority chairman Daniel A. Grabauskas, at the behest of Vossloh España S.A., a Spanish subsidiary of a German firm, requested in September that the FTA waive its "Buy American" requirements for a contract Vossloh had bid on to build the locomotives.

They argued the waiver would "expand the competitive range to include Vossloh as a . . . bidder," according to FTA Deputy Administrator Sherry E. Little's decision.

But the authority decided the T's proposal to buy the locomotives in Spain would not save enough taxpayer money to warrant a public interest waiver. (Boston Globe-Full Story)

The Boston-based mutual-fund company is still working on details of its second-round reductions, spokeswoman Anne Crowley said.

The company didn’t say how many Massachusetts employees will get pink slips.

Boston College in flap over lingerie

Boston College’s merchandising deal with racy lingerie peddler Victoria’s Secret is raising ire on campus and among the conservative, Catholic school’s alumni.

Yesterday on Newbury Street, outside a Victoria’s Secret store that is selling hot-pink Boston College tank tops for $19.50 and Eagles “short shorts,” others agreed.

WEEKEND LOVE FORECAST:

ARIES: You surrender your ego and risk looking foolish as you perform daring acts in the name of love. TAURUS: From food to activities to gifts, you have the best ideas about what a loved one might enjoy. GEMINI: You have a wonderful time being seductively mysterious, creating a kind of maze for another person to try and figure out. CANCER: Putting your partner's feelings first, you act in a way that is contrary to your impulses. LEO: You're compelled to communicate your secret heart, but it may not be what's best for your relationship. VIRGO: You find common ground with an uncommon person. LIBRA: Consider who is best suited to accompany you to a specific event based on who you think will have and be the most fun. SCORPIO: Seeing how other couples relate to one another inspires your own relationships. SAGITTARIUS: Due to a new influence in your life, there is a softer side of you emerging. CAPRICORN: You make an important investment in your love. AQUARIUS: The less you reveal to your date, the more fun you have. PISCES: You're attracted to a person who understands the way your mind works.

COUPLE OF THE WEEKEND: Gemini and Scorpio are a fascinating duo. On the surface they appear to have little in common. Scorpio remains cool and mysterious as Gemini brings bounds of energy and information. The two can connect with perfect ease though, bringing out sides of each other that they would rarely choose to reveal if not prompted. These two challenge each other and bond as they meet those challenges.

A Truly Heartbreaking Day

I would never normally write about something so tragic, but this has really got to me. Very early today, I learned that a friend passed away in a car accident last night. What is so tragic about this is she lost her life long before her time and for no reason that could ever be explained to me, under any circumstances. And she had 3 young children who meant so much to her that will forever grieve her loss.

My deepest sympanthies go out to her family and friends. I know they are heartbroken by her untimely passing, as I am. My heart goes out to all involved.

A letter to God from a Dog

Dear God:

Is it on purpose our names are the same, only reversed?

Why do humans smell the flowers, but seldom, if ever, smell one another?

When we get to heaven, can we sit on your couch? Or is it still the same old story?

Why are there cars named after the jaguar, the cougar, the mustang, the colt, the stingray, and the rabbit, but not ONE named for a Dog? How often do you see a cougar riding around? We do love a nice ride! Would it be so hard to rename the 'Chrysler Eagle' the 'Chrysler Beagle'?

If a Dog barks his head off in the forest and no human hears him, is he still a bad Dog?

We Dogs can understand human verbal instructions, hand signals, whistles, horns, clickers, beepers, scent ID's, electromagnetic energy fields, and Frisbee flight paths. What do humans understand?

More meatballs, less spaghetti, please.

Are there mailmen in Heaven? If there are, will I have to apologize?

Let me give you a list of just some of the things I’ll try to remember to be a good Dog:

1. I will not eat the cats' food before they eat it, or after they throw it up.
2. I will not roll on dead seagulls, fish, crabs, etc., just because I like the way these dead things smell.
3. I will not munch on "leftovers" in the kitty litter box, although they are tasty.
4. The diaper pail is not a cookie jar.
5. The sofa is not a face towel. Neither are Mom and Dad's laps.
6. The garbage collector is not actually stealing our stuff.
7. My head does not belong in the refrigerator.
8. When the officer reaches in for Mom's driver's license and registration, I will not bit his hand
9. I will not play tug-of-war with Dad's underwear when he's on the toilet.
10. Sticking my nose into someone's crotch is an unacceptable way of saying "hello".
11. I don't need to suddenly stand straight up when I'm under the coffee table.
12. I must shake the rainwater out of my fur before entering the house --- not after.
13. I will not throw up in the car.
14. I will not come in from outside and immediately drag my butt across the carpet.
15. When we have company, I will not sit in the middle of the living room and lick my crotch
16. The cat is not a “squeaky toy”, so when I play with him and he makes that noise, it's usually not a good thing.

And, finally, my last question:

Why do humans only have 10 Commandments but dogs have 16?

P.S. When I get to Heaven may I have my testicles back? Please?

Rep seeks track vote

REVERE - She admits it is a long shot, but state Rep. Kathi-Anne Reinstein is exploring the possibility of asking fellow legislators to overturn last week's referendum vote closing dog tracks in 2010.

"I will file a petition if I can. We are looking into how to go about reversing it," Reinstein said.

Ban proponents labeled their victory "a clear message that we will not tolerate an industry that causes thousands of dogs to endure lives of terrible confinement."

Reinstein sides with workers and kennel owners who called proponents' mistreatment claims exaggerated. She contrasted the dog ban to a marijuana decriminalization referendum voters also approved.

"It's tragic that it is OK to smoke pot but not OK to make an honest day's living."

Call to action: Pastor issuing 7-day sex challenge

DALLAS (AP) — The pastor of a mega-church says he will challenge married congregants during his sermon Sunday to have sex for seven straight days — and he plans to practice what he preaches.

"We're going to give it a try," said the Rev. Ed Young, who has four children with his wife of 26 years.

Young, 47, said he believes society promotes promiscuity and he wants to reclaim sex for married couples. Sex should be a nurturing, spiritual act that strengthens marriages, he said.

"God says sex should be between a married man and a woman," Young said. "I think it's one of the greatest things you can do for your kids because so goes the marriage, so goes the family."

Young said he will deliver his seven-day sex challenge while sitting on a bed in front of his Dallas-area church campus.

He is founder of the nondenominational Fellowship Church, which draws about 20,000 people each Sunday and also has campuses in Fort Worth, Plano and Miami.

Earlier this year, a southwest Florida pastor, perhaps having more faith in his congregants' stamina, issued a 30-day sex challenge.

"This is a situation where we are more than heartbroken," said Jim Notter, the superintendent of schools for Broward County.

Ticket prices to remain the same

The Red Sox announced this morning that it is holding prices at 2008 levels for all existing seats and standing room tickets available to the public at Fenway Park for the 2009 season.

It is the first time in 14 seasons the club has not raised at least some ticket prices.

“We have been listening to fans, friends, and family about the challenges they are facing in light of the current adverse economic conditions,” said Red Sox president and CEO Larry Lucchino in a press release. “We are also grateful for the unwavering faith and support our fans have shown us year after year and we hope our ownership’s decision to hold prices for the upcoming season will in some way help ease the burden on Red Sox Nation.”

The last time the Red Sox held ticket prices across the board was 1995 -- the season following the damaging strike that led to the cancellation of the '94 World Series.

Outrageous ads flirt with temptation

Radio spots facilitate flings

A controversial online dating service that matches up married men and women has launched an ad blitz in Boston - unfazed by a quaint state law that bans adultery.

The Ashley Madison Agency - whose motto is “Life is short. Have an affair” - began airing radio spots on WAAF [website]-FM (97.7/107.3) and WBCN [website]-FM (104.1) last week, said agency CEO and president Noel Biderman.

Layoffs may soar in December

December could be a brutal month for job layoffs in Massachusetts, as the economy worsens and more companies look for ways to cut costs before the end of the year, economists and labor officials say.

Historically, the highest numbers of job cuts in Massachusetts and elsewhere have been recorded in December, when executives typically scramble to hit profit targets and prepare budgets for the following year.

"We're definitely bracing for more layoffs," said Tim Sullivan, legislative and communications director for Massachusetts AFL-CIO, the umbrella organization for 750 unions in the state.

Peabody ex-cop is unfit for trial

SALEM - A judge has ruled that a former Peabody police officer charged with beating his elderly mother into a coma on Thanksgiving Day 2004 is not competent to stand trial.

The ruling by Salem Superior Court Judge David Lowy is significant because it means the defendant, George Sideris, will be sent to Bridgewater State Hospital until he is deemed competent to stand trial. Sideris can't be tried on the charges until he regains competency.

Lowy made his ruling Monday after considering the findings of two psychiatrists who examined Sideris, according to the Associated Press.

Sideris, 37, was then sent back to the Bridgewater hospital for further evaluation. He is scheduled to appear in court again Dec. 5.

Revere FD to receive three new fire trucks next month

REVERE - City firefighters will get an early Christmas present with the mid-December delivery of a new ladder truck and two engines heading for local stations.

"They are at the dealers in Walpole and we should have them in Revere by Friday. Firefighters will train on them next week and they will be lettered and have radios installed," said Fire Chief Eugene Doherty on Tuesday.

The trio replaces two fire engines and a ladder truck that have aged past their recommended operating life and are saddling the city with big repair bills and potential risk to firefighters.

Mayor Thomas Ambrosino plans to reduce the $1.7 million price tag for three new trucks with a $150,000 donation from the Stop & Shop grocery chain and other city money sources.

A Message from Registrar Kaprielian on RMV Budget Cuts

This was received by Denise. If you go to the RMV site, you'll see an RMV Alert telling customers new hours of operation, as well as the different material they will no longer mail to you. You are now expected to keep track of your renewals without notice from the RMV.

Dear Customer,

Like many businesses across the Commonwealth, the RMV is working to squeeze every penny of savings from our budget in the wake of a drastic downturn in the state's economy.

To weather this financial storm, the RMV is adopting operational changes that, we believe, will minimize the impact on customer service in our branches.

NEW HOURS
Beginning Monday, November 3, 2008, the RMV will delay the opening hours of most branches by a half hour from 8:30am to 9 am. Hours of operation will also change at the 18 branches that have extended hours to 7pm on Thursdays. These branches will now be open from 10 am to 6 pm.

RMV MAILINGS
The RMV will eliminate courtesy notices that are sent to customers for the following services:

License and Mass ID renewal notices
Vehicle Inspection reminder letters for vehicles that are overdue for inspection
Inspector license renewal notices
7D license renewal notices
Driver's Education Certificates
Junior Operator Brochures for parents
Change of address labels
Preserving customer service and keeping wait times down is my number one priority in implementing any changes at the RMV.

Remember: On line saves time. Chances are the service you need is right here on our website. The RMV Express Lane is always open.

Thank you for your patience.

Registrar Kaprielian

I think I've seen everything...

a friend recently sent me a website that allowed you to put in your address and it would show your neighborhood and where a felon lives in relationship to your home. If you hovered over the red dots it would give you the person's name, age and what their offense was. I looked at the info and then started to read the site. If you saw people over water, there was an assinine reason given for why you would see someone over water. If you saw push-pins, instead of bubbles, there was an assinine reason for it and the reasons almost always had to do with your faulty equipment, or a mistake you made.

This wasn't the frightening part. Among other things, they had a site that mapped people who, they say, have aids and another site that tracked people who have had abortions. These sites also allowed you to report anyone to them and in some cases, asked extensive questions...and gave bizarre reasons why your name would never be "wrongly" posted.

Be very careful of these sites. You can tell by what they say they are extremists.

If you're curious and check these sites out, I suggest you be sure your antivirus protection is up-to-date.

Happy Birthday, Joe!

War veterans receive a special thank-you from state

Nine US military service members were invited to the State House yesterday to receive their tax-free $1,000 bonus checks.

Anthony Hinson will use his check for Christmas toys for his two children. Brendan Murphy will use his for a vacation to Aruba.

The two men were among nine US military service members invited yesterday afternoon to the State House to pick up $1,000 "Welcome Home" bonus checks, tax-free money given to war veterans who served in combat zones since the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

The state has issued about 17,000 checks since the Welcome Home Bill was signed into law three years ago by then-Governor Mitt Romney. There are about 7,000 more service members eligible for the bonus who have not yet applied, state Treasurer Timothy Cahill said during a press conference aimed at getting the word out about the bonus. Burglary in Florida

Submitted by Murphy

When southern Florida resident Nathan Radlich's house was burglarized recently, thieves ignored his wide screen plasma TV, his VCR, and even left his Rolex watch. What they did take, however, was a generic white cardboard box filled with a grayish-white powder. (That's at least the way the police report described it.)

A spokesman for the Fort Lauderdale police said, 'that it looked similar to high grade cocaine and they'd probably thought they'd hit the big time.'

Later, Nathan stood in front of the numerous TV cameras and pleaded with the burglars:
'Please return the cremated remains of my sister, Gertrude. She died three years ago.'

The next morning, the bullet-riddled corpse of a local drug dealer known as Hoochie Pevens was found on Nathan's doorstep. The cardboard box was there too; about half of Gertrude's ashes remained. Scotch taped to the box was this note which said:
'Hoochie sold us the bogus blow, so we wasted Hoochie. Sorry we snorted your sister. No hard feelings. Have a nice day.’

Decisions, Decisions!

So what are we gonna do, Toni?

Tempting, isn't it?

Do we stay?

or

Do we go?

I'm gonna hafta sleep on it.

How 'bout you?

Monday, Monday, can't trust that day

Have a ton of stuff to do today. Like run to the post office and find out why we're suddenly getting all this mail for Dr. Tim...I don't even know Dr. Tim, but it appears he's living in some crevice of our home.

At some point I have to get my driver's license renewed. I don't even know where to get it done anymore. That's always a treat, too. Last time I went it was pouring out. I looked like a drowned rat. The time after that, rather than go in and get another picture taken, I kept the drowned rat look...because now I'm wearing glasses. Like that really matters. Somehow I thought the younger, drowned rat look was more appealing than a dry me with glasses! It also has to be the last time I recall cutting my hair short.

I have to get another birthday card in the mail before I forget...my brother's you ask...no, I forgot it again!

Then of course there's the starting of the diet. Maybe if I worked a 4 day workweek I'd begin to hate Tuesday's as much as I despise Monday's. I know one thing. I'll be in bed early tonight. Have been up since 4 this morning and my battery should run out by about 6 PM.

TTFN, will check back later. Have a ton of work to get done if I ever want to get out of here.

Cleared water boss seeks $50K from Revere

REVERE - He won a court fight to clear his name of bribery charges, but city water foreman Joseph Maglione may not succeed in getting the city to cover $50,000 in legal fees.

Maglione wants the city to pay legal costs he incurred in retaining William Spallina to represent him before the state Ethics Commission. He also wants to recoup lost overtime pay.

“I don’t think the city is liable,” said city Solicitor Paul Capizzi in explaining the city’s position. (Lynn Daily Item - Full Story)

Baby Gino

Congratulations to Denise & Michael on the birth of their son, Gino.

And that's when the fight started...

Received from Jacko

My wife sat down on the couch next to me as I was flipping channels.
She asked, 'What's on TV?'
I said, 'Dust.'
-------------------------------------------------------

My wife was hinting about what she wanted for our upcoming anniversary.
She said, 'I want something shiny that goes from 0 to 150 in about 3 seconds.'
I bought her a scale.
-------------------------------------------------------

When I got home last night, my wife demanded that I take her someplace expensive...So, I took her to a gas station.
-------------------------------------------------------

After retiring, I went to the Social Security office to apply for Social Security. The woman behind the counter asked me for my driver's license to verify my age. I looked in my pockets and realized I had left my wallet at home. I told the woman that I was very sorry, but I would have to go home and come back later. The woman said, 'Unbutton your shirt'. So I opened my shirt revealing my curly silver hair. She said, 'That silver hair on your chest is proof enough for me' and she processed my Social Security application.

When I got home, I excitedly told my wife about my experience at the Social Security office. She said, 'you should have dropped your pants. You might have gotten disability, too.'
-------------------------------------------------------

My wife and I were sitting at a table at my high school reunion, and I kept staring at a drunken lady swigging her drink as she sat alone at a nearby table.

My wife asked, 'Do you know her?'

'Yes,' I sighed, 'She's my old girlfriend. I understand she took to drinking right after we split up those many years ago, and I hear she hasn't been sober since.'

'My God!' says my wife, 'who would think a person could go on celebrating that long?'
-------------------------------------------------------

I rear-ended a car this morning.

So, there we were alongside the road and slowly the other driver got out of his car. You know how sometimes you just get soooo stressed and little things just seem funny?

Yeah, well I couldn't believe it..... he was a DWARF!!!

He stormed over to my car, looked up at me, and shouted, 'I AM NOT HAPPY!'

So, I looked down at him and said, 'Well, then which one are you?'

My Life Broken Down into Segments

Globe North Community Briefing

REVERE
BEACH CLEANUP PURSUED - City Councilor Daniel Rizzo has asked that Suffolk County Sheriff Andrea Cabral appear before the council to discuss whether the partnership between Cabral's office and Revere Beach would be affected if the Department of Conservation and Recreation budget is cut. Through Cabral's office, low-security inmates help clean the beach each summer. Rizzo said he wants to make sure the program continues next summer and wants to find out how best to improve it. Rizzo said he would like to talk to Cabral about possibly increasing the number of work-release inmates, who, he said, have done a terrific job. - Katheleen Conti

WINTHROP
NO SOLUTION IN LOGJAM - The legal actions brought by the owner of Wyatt's Mobil gas station on Main Street against the owners of the Dunkin' Donuts next door and the town were recently dismissed without prejudice by a Suffolk Superior Court judge. Robert Wyatt, owner of the gas station, wanted the court to force the town to enforce its 2007 decision ordering Dunkin' Donuts to shut down its drive-through window between 7 and 10 a.m., seven days a week. After determining last year that Dunkin' Donuts owners violated their special permit order to have a police detail directing traffic during morning commute hours, the Board of Appeals ordered the drive-through shut down during those hours. Dunkin' Donuts owners filed an appeal, in the meantime allowing them to continue to operate the window. Some residents, including Wyatt, blame Dunkin' Donuts for aggravating the daily congestion of vehicles leaving town toward East Boston. In his legal argument, Wyatt argued that not only was the congestion a public safety issue, but also that the cars queued up for the drive-through service were blocking entrance to his business. James J. Cipoletta, attorney for Dunkin' Donuts, asked the court to dismiss Wyatt's case, claiming that as a lessee of the property where his business sits, Wyatt had no standing to interfere in the zoning case. An attorney hired by the town and Wyatt's landlord, Nicholas Simione, who is also Dunkin' Donuts' landlord, argued the same thing. Ultimately Wyatt's attorney asked that the matter be dismissed without prejudice. Wyatt said he is frustrated. "Even though I have a 30-year lease and I've been there for 25 years, they don't even consider me a person of standing," Wyatt said.

PEABODY
MORE OPEN SPACE PURCHASED - A closing was recently held on the city's purchase 11.5-acres of forest and wetlands on Scouting Way from Eastman Gelatine Corp. The city is using its Community Preservation Fund for the $550,000 purchase. According to community and development director Jean Delios, Peabody paid half of the price at closing and will pay the balance in a year. The city bought the parcel for open space and possible use as athletic fields. Delios said the purchase is part of Mayor Michael J. Bonfanti's ongoing effort to secure open space. With the Scouting Way land, Peabody has bought close to 70 acres during the past three years. - John Laidler

This is what I heard...

$5 to get in...$12 for a beer.
Pretty expensive for a beer if you ask me.
Must have been serving Sam Adam's Utopias.
(They weren't, I just made that up)
